1983 Dick Frailing  Manitowoc.gifDick Frailing, a teacher of mathematics at Manitowoc Lincoln High School started his career in coaching in the 1950's as an assistant coach. This was in 1954 at Brillon, Wisconsin. From 1955 to 1958, Dick volunteered his help as assistant at Manitowoc Lincoln. In 1958, he assumed the head coaching position at Manitowoc Lincoln. The records indicated excellent results until his coaching retirement in 1978.

Dick's accomplishments cannot be overlooked. His overall dual meet record is 192-48-1, which includes an undefeated streak from 1972-77. The Fox River Valley conference adopted wrestling in the 1965-66 season and his teams won twelve of the first fourteen championships. His teams have won 12 regional championships and were 2nd once. Dick sent 54 wrestlers to the state tournaments; 23 became place winners including 4 state champions.

For those who have known and competed against Dick, respect and admiration has developed. He always taught his boys to wrestle hard and to compete in a sportsmanlike way. One of his main attributes is the love and care he felt for each of his wrestlers. Each year Manitowoc Lincoln hosts a B-squad wrestling tournament. As a tribute to this individual there is a Dick Frailing award presented to the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
