In 1938-40, Larry Lederman was admired and respected as a wrestler. Big 10 Champion at 145 lbs., Mid-West Champion in both 1939 and 1940 AAU's.
Shortly after that he began a career in coaching, with inspiration and encouragement from George Martin. He served with George as an assistant coach from 1938-40 and also at Beloit College. From 1949 to 1956 he was mentor for the UW - Extension, and interestingly enough, was also head coach for Marquette University. They practiced together for 6 years. In 1953, Milwaukee State Teachers' College lost their coach and Larry took them in to make three teams at one time attempting to keep it together. And because of Larry, they did it.
His contributions outside of being actively involved in coaching are lengthy indeed. He was chairman of the Wisconsin AAU wrestling committee. Other levels of involvement have been as an official at the 1952 Olympic trials, as a member of the National AAU Wrestling Rules Committee from 1941 to 1956. He also officiated in the National AAU tourney in Des Moines in 1941 and officiated Wisconsin State AAU tourneys in 1939-40-41-46 and 47.
Larry spent his whole life in and for wrestling.
