1999 Byron James  Lifetime Service  UW River Falls.gifMr. James was the head wrestling coach at University of Wisconsin - River Falls. James has been responsible for much of the growth of wrestling in the northwest portion of Wisconsin. James annually conducts non-profit wrestling camps and clinics for coaches and wrestlers as well as hosting invitational tournaments.

Byron James has a college coaching record of 172-67-3. Prior to entering the college ranks, James had a high school coaching record of 39-6-1. During that time he was also president of the Wyoming State High School Coaches Association. During his 28 years of coaching, James produced 16 N.A.I.A. all-Americans. His teams have won the Wisconsin State University Athletic Conference Championship in wrestling in 1960, 62, 63, 67 and 73.

During the 1976-77 year James was president of the N.A.I.A. Wrestling Coaches Association. Previous to that he was the 1st vice-president and 2nd vice-president. He has also served on the following special committees: U.S. College Sport Committee, Membership Committee for the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the A.A.U. International Games Committee.

James received his BA Degree from the University of Northern Iowa where he competed as a wrestler and his MA Degree from the University of Iowa.
