Larry Marchionda, head wrestling coach at Fond Du Lac High School, did his high school wrestling at Penn Yan Academy, Penn Yan, New York, where he accumulated an outstanding record of 97-4. He continued to demonstrate his exceptional wrestling ability by tallying a 59-18 record at Winona State University, where he earned his graduate and undergraduate degrees.
Larry continued his post-college wrestling as a finalist in the 1968 Olympic Trials at Ames, Iowa. Other accomplishments include Greco Champion in 1975, AAU runner-up in 1968, Freestyle runner-up in 1977, 1978 and 1980, Freestyle Champion in 1979, and a three-time member of the Wisconsin vs. West Germany team.
His coaching career includes one year as assistant coach at Winona State University, 2 years at Cochrane-Fountain City, and 14 years at Fond du Lac. As head coach, Larry's teams have compiled at 165-35 record, winning 26 tournament championships. Under his tutelage, 19 wrestlers have qualified for state and 4 have placed.
Coach Marchionda has demonstrated an active involvement in wrestling. He has coached 2 USWF State teams, Wisconsin's first foreign exchange team to tour West Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, and Romania, and has hosted 6 foreign exchange teams.
In addition to being a member of the WIAA Wrestling Rules Advisory Committee, Larry has also been an Area Representative, Secretary, Vice-president and President of the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association. He is registered as an official at the WIAA, State University, AAU and USWF levels.
