1986 John Peterson Distinguished Member Olympian Cumberland-Comstock.gifJohn Peterson3.jpgJohn Peterson is an experienced competitor. He participated in wrestling competition at all levels. His most outstanding accomplishments have come at the international level with his two Olympic medals, a silver in 1972 and the gold in 1976.
John is a 1967 graduate of Cumberland High School. He attended Stout State University where he was a three-time Wisconsin State University Champion. His senior year he was 5th in the NAIA national tournament. The State University Conference now present an annual award - The John Peterson Award - for the outstanding conference wrestler.
John as been a member of 2 World Championship teams and took part in 4 cultural exchange trips to the Soviet Union. In both 1973 and 1975 he won the World Cup Tournament in Toledo. He is a 2-time national freestyle champ. John has gone on to coaching.
