2012-2  Scott Schmitz  Lifetime Service  Mineral Point (Large).jpgScott Schmitz was born on Aug. 28, 1962, in Dodgeville WI. He was raised on the family farm in Mineral Point WI by his parents LaVerne (Curly) and Helen Schmitz, along with five brothers; Doug, Dan, Mark, Mike, Todd and two sisters, Connie and Marcia.
He went to Mineral Point High School, lettering in football two years and wrestling four years. A solid foundation in wrestling was set by his high school coaches, Al Bauman, Rich Bingham, and Donny Hanson.
After high school graduation, Scott went to the University of Wisconsin and wrestled under Duane Kleven and Russ Helickson for four years. He then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Health. Scott began his teaching and coaching career in 1087 in his hometown of Mineral Point where he has taught and coached for the past 25 years.

List of accomplishments: HS coaching record 407-103-3; 12 SWAL Conference Championships; 8 Clash Tournament Champs; 16 Regional Championships; 10 Team Sectional Championships; 1 Individual Team Sectional Champion; 7 Unofficial Ind. Team State titles; 5 Team State titles; 2 Runner-up team finishes; 10 time Team State qualifiers. He has coached 111 State qualifiers, 80 Place finishers, 26 Ind. State Camps, was elected WWCA Dist. 5 Coach of the Year 1995, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010; Wisconsin State Coach of the Year 2002, 2003 and 2009; National Federation High School Coaches Association Sectional Coach of the Year 2003; WWCA Dist. 5 Rep. 1005-present; Junior National Freestyle Coach 1990-1996; WWF Cadet Director 2004-present; Head coach of the first Junior Dual team for the WWF 1994 & 95.
